The Yonus Davis Foundation launched Healthy Active Oakland Youth to address the growing need for safe, structured, and engaging opportunities for youth in our community. In too many Oakland neighborhoods, children face barriers to physical activity, access to nutritious food, and consistent mentorship.
This program was created to combat rising health disparities, reduce youth violence, and promote overall well-being. Through sports, fitness, environmental education, and leadership development, we aim to keep kids active, connected, and empowered.
Our goal is simple: help Oakland’s youth grow strong in body, mind, and spirit—one play, one day at a time.
"Teens Go Green & Stop The Violence" is a program which includes, along with sports, nutrition education and mentorship, an innovative approach designed to engage youth aged 5-14 in a holistic approach to health, sustainability, and community stewardship.
In addition to physical activity, the YDF places a strong emphasis on nutrition education. Through workshops, cooking classes, and community events, youth learn about the importance of balanced eating, making healthy choices, and cultivating lifelong habits that promote well-being.
With Teens Go Green as a an Eco- Awareness component to our programming,
Youth will learn about of how our eco-systemis impacted by their own behaviors, and the effects of global warming, erratic weather patterns and other signs of environmental upset.
With the new knowledge the youth will obtain, we will encourage them to raise their environmental consciousness, create better practices around waste management, and about career opportunities to enhance their indivicudal prospects as well as have a greater positive impact in their own families and communities.
At the Yonus Davis Foundation (YDF), we believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. Our Mental Health & Wellness Support services offer youth and families access to trauma-informed care, peer mentorship, and licensed therapy providers.
We provide individual and group therapy sessions, healing circles, and wellness workshops designed to address anxiety, depression, grief, and the stressors that affect our youth—especially those impacted by community violence, poverty, or instability.
Through our culturally responsive approach, we empower young people to build resilience, practice self-care, and thrive emotionally and mentally

YDF College Tours – Inspiring the Next Generation of Scholars and Leaders
The Yonus Davis Foundation (YDF) organizes empowering college tours for youth to explore higher education opportunities firsthand. These tours expose students—many of whom are first-generation college prospects—to university campuses across California and beyond. Through guided visits, student panels, admissions workshops, and mentorship conversations, YDF helps participants envision themselves in college and plan for their academic future.
Our tours promote college readiness, confidence, and goal-setting, making higher education a real and reachable dream.
Our NFL Flag Football program provides youth with a fun, fast-paced, and non-contact alternative to traditional tackle football. Open to boys and girls ages 5–14, this program teaches the fundamentals of football—teamwork, strategy, discipline, and sportsmanship—through weekly practices and games.
As an official NFL Flag league, participants wear authentic NFL-branded jerseys and compete in organized divisions based on age and skill level. Our goal is to create a safe, inclusive environment where every child can develop their skills, build confidence, and enjoy the game.
